Every Fabric Tells a Story of Human Hands.
At Crow, every textile is made entirely by hand. Whether woven on a loom, knitted stitch by stitch, or printed with carved wooden blocks, each fabric is hand-dyed using natural pigments from plants, roots, and minerals.
Our prices reflect one thing: the time it took to make your garment. The weaving, the knitting, the block printing, the dyeing — each step is done by hand, by artisan communities who have carried these crafts for centuries.
Our Impact
We work with over 50 looms across Eastern India, Central India, Kutch, Western India, The Deccan, Kashmir, and The Himalayas — supporting approximately 250 artisans and the families who depend on their craft.
What Goes Into One Garment
Every piece at Crow is hand-woven, hand-knitted, or hand block printed — and every fabric is hand-dyed. Before a garment is ever cut or stitched, the fabric itself takes days, sometimes weeks, to make.
On every product page, we tell you exactly how long:
"The fabric for this dress took 4 days to weave on a handloom in West Bengal."
"The fabric for this top took 6 days to knit by hand in Himachal Pradesh."
"This fabric was hand block printed over 3 days in Rajasthan."
Hand Dyeing
Every fabric — woven, knitted, or printed — is hand-dyed. Each textile is colored using either natural ingredients like plants, roots, bark, and minerals, or azo-free dyes where natural alternatives are not suitable. Both are chosen for the same reason: they are safer for the artisans making your garment and for you wearing it.
The Women of Crow
In Central India, our fabrics are made by women who weave and print around the rhythms of their daily lives — caring for their families, running their homes, and working on their own time. There are no factory floors or fixed shifts. Each woman works when she can, at her own pace, and is paid a living wage for every piece she makes. Their work supports their families and keeps a centuries-old craft alive in their communities.
Hand Weaving
The traditional loom, also known as the handloom, is a simple yet versatile device used for weaving textiles. Handlooms have been an integral part of India's textile heritage, dating back thousands of years. It typically consists of a wooden frame, with two vertical posts called beams, and horizontal bars called shafts or frames. The warp threads, which run vertically, are wound around one beam and attached to the other, while the weft threads, which run horizontally, are interlaced through the warp threads to create the fabric. Handlooms come in various types, such as pit looms, frame looms, and backstrap looms, each suited to different weaving techniques and styles.
Produced on Demand.
We believe in a better way of making things. Your garment is made just for you—cut, stitched, and hand-finished only after you order it. We also believe in giving back, so your purchase is packaged in a bag made by a partner organization that supports a community of artisans with disabilities.
The Real Cost of Handmade
At Crow, our pricing is transparent: it reflects the days of weaving, knitting, or printing, the hours of hand-dyeing, and the fair wages of the communities behind every garment.
Slow To Make. Made To Last. Worth Every Day.
